Gov. Cuomo declares ‘Climate Week’ in New York
ALBANY— Gov. Andrew Cuomo has designated this week “Climate Week” to get New Yorkers thinking about the challenges of climate change.
The action comes as more than 120 world leaders prepare to convene Tuesday in New York City for the United Nations Climate Summit. The meeting is aimed at galvanizing political will for a new global climate treaty by the end of 2015.
Cuomo says severe storms in recent years have spurred the state to proactively research and implement initiatives to reduce greenhouse gases and prepare for extreme weather.
Among the clean energy initiatives are a cap-and-trade program to cut carbon emissions from power plants, and the NY-Sun program to spur deployment of solar technology.
