ON THIS DAY in 1905, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Workman Blown to Bits in Fireworks Explosion.” The article focused on an explosion that took place in a fireworks factory. “All accounts of the explosion agree that it was terrific,” the Eagle reported. “The neighborhood immediately around…where the accident occurred felt a shock like an earthquake, and there was a general panic among those living nearby.” The work man who died was only 16 years old.
