FLOODING IN PAKISTAN: An Indian tourist cries as she is airlifted into a chopper in Srinagar, India, Tuesday. The death toll from floods in Pakistan and India reached 400 on Tuesday and have put more than half a million people in peril and rendered thousands homeless in the two neighboring states. The tourist was stranded on the terrace of a five-story hotel in central Srinagar.

MURAL DEDICATED IN WILLIAMSBURG: On Sept. 5, El Puente dedicated ¡Cultura Con Azúcar!, a community mural recently completed along the perimeter of the Domino Sugar Factory site by public art collective Los Muralistas de El Puente at Grand Street and Kent Avenue in Williamsburg. The mural depicts the history of the Los Sures (Southside of Williamsburg) community and the resiliency of its people through the neighborhood’s vast changes.

Teams from 14 motels from across the region took part in this years’ contest and competed in events ranging from handcuffed bed making to towel folding to bathroom cleaning obstacle courses.

FULL MOON IN MISSOURI: A couple sits on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River as the full moon rises in the distance Monday in Kansas City, Mo. Monday night’s full moon, also known as a Harvest Moon, will be the third and final “supermoon” of 2014. The phenomenon, which scientists call a “perigee moon,” occurs when the moon is near the horizon and appears larger and brighter than other full moons.
