1 dead, 1 critical after Brooklyn residential fire

Authorities say one person has died and another is critically injured following an early morning fire in Brooklyn.

The 5-alarm fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on Flatbush Avenue in the Prospect Heights section.

Police say a 46-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

Three other people were hospitalized in serious condition. About 30 people were displaced from their homes.

The Wall Street Journal says it appears the fire started in a hardware store.

The Fire Department says the cause is under investigation.
