Brooklyn Rugby fell on both the men’s and women’s sides this past weekend, Week 3 of the Empire GU schedule. The men lost to New York Rugby Club (NYC) at home while the women fell to Providence Rugby Club (RI) after making the trip up to Rhode Island.

On a windy day at Fort Tilden, the Brooklyn men faced off against division rival New York Rugby Club (Division III). New York took an early lead in the game, scoring the match’s first three tries to go up 19-0 at the half. However, Brooklyn rebounded after the break and put across the first score of the second half after Ben “Bino” Deschamps touched down, making the score 19-7 following Erik Aurigemma’s successful conversion.

Brooklyn was unable to maintain a steady offensive attack as the second half progressed, and even after a number of chances deep in New York’s end, the team was unable to add another score. New York added one more try in the final minutes, making the final tally 24-7.

The Brooklyn women faced off against one of their toughest opponents of the season in Providence Rugby Club, after making the trip up to Rhode Island’s state capital. Tries came early and often for the experienced Providence side and Brooklyn was never able to garner any momentum on offense, playing much of the game in their own end.

The Brooklyn men will look to rebound after the team’s first loss of the season when they travel to play Suffolk (NY) this Saturday, October 3, while the Brooklyn women have a bye week.
