Brooklyn Senior Idol, the talent contest for the over 50-crowd, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Xaverian High School, 7100 Shore Road in Bay Ridge, at 7 p.m.

The contest rules stipulate that the contestants must be at least 50 years of age.

The event is being presented by state Sen. Marty Golden (R-C-Bay Ridge-Southwest Brooklyn) and Xaverian High School.

More than 30 Brooklyn residents auditioned in early September for a chance to enter the contest. From that pool of hopefuls, the finalists were selected to compete on Oct. 3.

The contest winner will be selected through audience votes and a panel of judges.

The grand prize is $500 and will be presented by Golden.

All of the proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to Xaverian High School’s music program.

The talent contest is going on this year with its original name intact after lawyers for “American Idol” backed off a threat of legal action against Brooklyn Senior Idol.

Golden had planned to change the name of his talent show to avoid getting dragged into court over copyright infringement.

Earlier this year, Golden had received a cease and desist letter from the law firm representing FreemantleMedia North America, producers of “American Idol,” advising him to stop using the name “Senior Idol” for his contest or face possible legal action.

“Senior Idol” was too similar to “American Idol,” the FOX show’s high powered lawyers warned Golden.

But in August, Golden announced that the lawyers representing the FOX Broadcast Company’s “American Idol” had contacted him and said all was forgiven.

The agreement meant that Senior Idol will go on as scheduled.

“I thank ‘American Idol’ for reaching out to my office in light of the attention we brought to the issue of the name of our highly regarded ‘Brooklyn Senior Idol’ talent show,” Golden said.
