As much as New York City changes, one thing about it remains indisputably true: not even a lifetime spent here is enough to take in the city’s unparalleled array of people, cultures, attractions and stories. It’s why tourists come here, and one of the primary reasons why residents of the city find it so hard to leave, even though it often feels like a place no sensible person would choose to live.

“In Your Face New York,” a new, episodic live show and podcast, aims to capture the city’s energy through sketches, songs and monologues by an array of New York artists and writers. Creator and producer Martin Sage plans to take the show to performance venues citywide, each time engaging a different guest host and lineup of participants. First up is the new waterfront St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn Bridge Park, where Tony- and OBIE–winning playwright, actress and poet Sarah Jones will host the premiere of the show on Sunday, Oct. 25.

The evening, part of a series of celebratory events inaugurating the new St. Ann’s Warehouse in October, will begin at 5 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at www.stannswarehouse.org or 718.254.8779.

Among the breadth of personalities performing at St. Ann’s are humorist, novelist and New Yorker staff writer Patricia Marx; WNYC’s Brian Lehrer; The New York Times obituary writer Bruce Weber; physician-novelist Josh Bazell (“Beat the Reaper,” “Wild Thing”); actress, singer and voice-over artist Ivy Austin (“A Prairie Home Companion,” “The Thalia Follies”); Sports Illustrated Executive Editor and Senior Writer Jon Wertheim; novelist and singer Rebecca Donner (“Sunset Terrace”); “Odd Mom Out” Co-Showrunner and Executive Producer Elisa Zuritsky; and musicians including jazz legend Jay Leonhart (Music Director); Latin Jazz bandleader, composer and singer Gregorio Uribe; the bands The Chalks and Invisible Familiars and more.

For a decade, Martin Sage produced “The Thalia Follies — A Political Cabaret,” which he created with his friend Isaiah Sheffer, founder and artistic director of Symphony Space. Sage conceived of “In Your Face New York” after Sheffer passed away in 2012. He staged a pilot episode at Symphony Space in [year] with Soledad O’Brien as host and special guests including Lily Tomlin and pianist Misha Dichter.

Of the podcast, Sage says, “We want people to get their needed jolt of New York whenever they feel like it. They could be in Mali or Maui, Kokomo or Kuala Lumpur. Just a few taps, and In Your Face is right under your nose.”
