Following the team’s 31-0 shutout victory over Suffolk last week, the Brooklyn Rugby men came away with their biggest win of the season on Saturday with a 36-14 victory over rival Rockaway Rugby Club (NYC).

Brooklyn jumped out to an early lead in the match after James Brodribb converted three consecutive penalties to start the game, giving Brooklyn a 9-0 advantage midway through the first half. But Rockaway countered with the game’s first try and successfully made the conversion, cutting Brooklyn’s lead to 9-7, where it would remain until halftime.

In the second half, Brooklyn scored its first try when Brodribb received an excellent offload and scored in the corner, making the score 14-7 after the missed conversion. Rockaway responded with its second try and made the difficult conversion, evening the score at 14-14 midway through the second half. However the remainder of the game belonged to Brooklyn as it added three more tries from Toby Tornay, Ben “Bino” Deschamps, and Captain Mike Reilly, playing the majority of the remaining 20 minutes in Rockaway’s half. Brodribb also added one more penalty before the final whistle, helping Brooklyn secure a hard-earned 36-14 victory over previously unbeaten Rockaway, putting them in first place in the division at the season’s halfway mark.
