Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 288th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1904, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Big Court Room Flooded.”

The article focused on severe damage done to a Queens County court house due to a running faucet.

“The flood occurred yesterday afternoon while a case was in progress before Justice Kelly,” the Eagle reported. “Someone opened a tap in the kitchen on the floor above and let it run. The water soon made its way to the court room, tickling down behind the jurors, who were forced to change their seats.”

“I Love Lucy” premiered on this day in 1951. The enormously popular sitcom starred the real-life husband-and-wife team of Cuban actor Desi Arnaz and redheaded actress Lucille Ball. It was the first sitcom to be filmed live before a studio audience, and it did extremely well in the ratings both the first time around and in reruns. The last telecast ran Sept. 24, 1961.

SEN. MARTY GOLDEN and Maimonides Heart and Vascular Center will host a symposium tonight called “Women’s Heart to Heart” from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bay Ridge Manor (476 76th St.). The symposium aims to educate women on the impact of heart disease and will include several guest speakers. All attendees will have the opportunity to get free heart-health screenings and dinner will be served to all.
