HeartShare Human Services of New York, which provides educational and recreational programs for children and developmentally disabled adults, is holding a toy and gift drive to benefit the kids and adults in its care.

HeartShare usually receives toys and games for children, according to officials, who said the organization is in need of donations for adults with developmental disabilities, including warm clothing, purses or wallets, CDs and DVDs.

Donated gifts should be shipped no later than Tuesday, Dec. 15, to: HeartShare Human Services of New York, Attention Danielle Maurice, 12 MetroTech Center, 29th Floor, Brooklyn, N.Y., 11201.

HeartShare’s Toy and Gift Drive started a few years ago, thanks to a donation from Dan and Fran Maniscalco. The Maniscalcos’ efforts began with a truck load of toys from their family as an expression of gratitude to HeartShare for its role in connecting the couple to their adoptive son Michael in 1987.

The Maniscalcos have led the drive ever since.

“Just one gift is a compassionate gesture that truly will make a difference, especially for those with developmental disabilities and children who are experiencing foster care,” said HeartShare Director of Special Events Danielle Maurice, who organizes the annual collection in partnership with community donors, small businesses and religious organizations.

For more information on the Toy and Gift Drive, contact Maurice at 718-422-4283 or email her at [email protected].
