Some of us would rather fish than shop.

A walk along the Shore Road Promenade is wonderful as well.

Many Bay Ridge residents have been busy with Black Friday and Cyber Monday and all manner of spending to prep for Christmas and Hanukkah. But for others, the lure of the waterfront is a worthy distraction from such seasonal tasks.

Even when the skies are gray, gray, gray, the sight of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge is stirring. America’s longest suspension bridge is a focal point for cyclists, kids on skateboards and folks out for a stroll on the Promenade.

At the other end of the popular shoreline walkway, the 69th Street Pier is a big draw — even for those without fishing poles.

Soaring 1 World Trade Center, the Empire State Building and a goodly segment of the Manhattan skyline rise out of the hazy harbor like a city in a dream. Interesting-looking ships head out to sea.

So what if the sun’s not shining? Nobody’s complaining.
