Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 352nd day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1918, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Officers of 106th Return on Celtic.”

The article focused on an ocean liner that brought 2,267 veterans back to New York after the first World War.

“As on the other steamers that have brought back troops this week, there were scores of Brooklyn and Long Island men who shared in the welcome…,” the Eagle reported. “Most of them were men who had fought with the 106th Inf. at Mount Kemmel and at the Hindenburg line; men who had been wounded in those great feats of war, and men who had at their tongues’ ends the wonderful story of gallantry and bravery that had distinguished our former 14th, 23rd and 47th Regiment ‘boys’ overseas.”
