ON THIS DAY IN 1908, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Killed by Culver Train.”

The article focused on a man being killed while riding on top of a subway car.

“Micheal J. McCarthy, a salesman, 45 years old, of 712 Ave. C, struck a pillar as the train neared the 16th Ave. station,” the Eagle reported. “He was knocked off, and falling under the wheels of the last car he was killed instantly.”

“SNOW WHITE AND the Seven Dwarves” premiered on this day in 1937 as America’s first full-length, Technicolor animated feature film.
