A middle-aged man was viciously attacked in Midwood early Monday morning by two hooded assailants. Officials said the victim is Jewish. The attackers have not yet been identified.

The attack began when one of the perpetrators ran up behind the unsuspecting victim and punched him to the sidewalk, where he was then repeatedly pummeled and kicked by both attackers. The perpetrators emptied the man’s pockets and gave him a final vicious kick to the head before leaving.

The attack happened at roughly 1 a.m. in front of 809 Avenue M, according to Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn). Hikind said the assailants removed the victim’s iPhone and wallet. The attack can be seen in a surveillance video posted here.

According to the website JP Updates, the victim’s friend called Hatzalah, who arrived on the scene and transferred the victim to Maimonides hospital.  The victim is now home and is in stable condition.

The investigation is still open and active, NYPD spokesperson Sgt. Lee Jones told the Brooklyn Eagle.

At a press conference Monday afternoon, Hikind and Sen. Simcha Felder said they were outraged. Hikind offered a reward of $3,000 for information leading to the apprehension of the perpetrators.

“I’m shocked that this could happen in our neighborhood, and in such a safe community,” Hikind said in a release. “This maliciousness and rampant violence cannot continue.”

“This incident is a prime example of why we need to continue pushing surveillance throughout our neighborhoods,” Hikind added.

“It’s a shame that people don’t feel comfortable walking around in their own neighborhood,” Felder said.

Hikind gathers with Borough Park and Flatbush Shomrim to address the attack on a Jewish man in Midwood Monday morning.
