ON THIS DAY in 1909, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Silas B. Dutcher Dies on Golden Wedding Day.”

As the headline implies, the article focused on a well-established man — the aged president of the Hamilton Trust Company, to be exact — passing away on his wedding anniversary.

“Silas B. Dutcher … whose distinguished political service made him, at one time, a prominent factor in affairs of state and nation … died at his residence,” the Eagle reported. “Mr. Dutcher suffered a stroke of paralysis…”
