Arlene Rutuelo, a Bay Ridge business and civic leader who was recently in the news when she announced the closure of her Norwegian goods shop Nordic Delicacies, has landed a new job.

State Sen. Marty Golden (R-C-Bay Ridge-southwest Brooklyn) announced on Monday that he has hired Rutuelo to serve as his executive assistant.

“I am so proud to welcome Arlene, her enthusiasm, and love of our community to my staff. Arlene has long been an outstanding local leader who has made a difference in our neighborhood at so many levels. I am confident that she will be a stellar addition to my staff and I look forward to working with her,” Golden said in a statement.

“I’m really excited about this awesome opportunity and looking forward to working with Senator Golden and his staff,” Rutuelo stated. “My roots run very deep here in Bay Ridge, it’s a privilege to be able to continue to serve in this great community that I deeply love.”

Rutuelo will be assigned to work at Golden’s Bay Ridge district office at 7408 Fifth Ave.

Rutuelo, whose Third Avenue shop closed last month after nearly 30 years in business, is a lifelong Bay Ridge resident. She is a longtime business leader, having served on the board of the Merchants of Third Avenue organization for many years.

A proud Norwegian-American, Rutuelo, whose maiden name is Baake, is the vice chairman of the Norwegian Christian Home & Health Center and serves on the board of the Scandinavian East Coast Museum. She is the co-chairman of the Miss Norway of Greater New York Contest and is the co-chairman of the 17th of May Parade, also known as the Norwegian Day Parade.

Rutuelo has a long record of community service, Golden said. She is president of the Guild for Exceptional Children, the non-profit organization based in Bay Ridge that offers assistance to the developmentally disabled and their families. She is also a member of the 68th Precinct Community Council.
