Brooklyn Today
ON THIS DAY in 1903, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Two Systems of Loops For Over-River Traffic.” The article focused on an “ingenious” plan in the works that would benefit Brooklyn.
“While the arrangement of elevated railroad lines at the terminals of the new bridges comes properly under the jurisdiction of either the Rapid Transit Commission or that of the Department of Bridges, a possible arrangement of such lines has suggested itself to Chief Engineer Lewis of the Board of Estimate…” the Eagle reported. The chief engineer had also suggested a tunnel under the East River.
