The already-landmarked sections of Crown Heights North are awesome, too.

Eye on Real Estate is focusing intensely this week on the portion of the neighborhood known as Phase III, which has been calendared for consideration as a historic district, but not designated. See related stories.

We also want to give readers a taste of the eye candy in the rest of Crown Heights North. So during a recent neighborhood walk-around, we took a quick detour onto a stretch of St. Marks Avenue that was landmarked a while ago.

While we were there, a resident invited us inside one of the century-plus-old houses for a peek at the woodwork. In a word: Wow.

We saw wood-paneled seating with elaborately carved decorations facing a fireplace flanked with stately wood columns.

Wooden banisters and side paneling along a staircase were beautiful.

There were fabulous French doors leading into a sunny sitting room.

The craftsmanship of yesteryear is quite something in Crown Heights North.
