ON THIS DAY in 1910, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Commits 2 Murders and Attempts Suicide Before a Saloon Bar.”

The article focused on a man who shot his brother and father-in-law at a saloon, leading to a wild chase after the shooter’s failed suicide attempt.

“As the result of domestic trouble, John G. Gargan, 26 years old, killed his brother … and father-in-law … in the saloon of Joseph Kees at Marcy and Lexington avenues,” the Eagle reported.
