The Junior League of Brooklyn (JLB) continues to show its commitment to helping at-risk women, children and families throughout Brooklyn during March, which is Women’s History month.

The JLB, founded in 1910, is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteering, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

“It’s beyond rewarding to be a part of an organization with such rich history and commitment to Brooklyn today,” said Letitia Graham, president of the JLB.

The organization will be hosting several events in March and April devoted to the betterment of the community.

On March 21, the Junior League will sponsor the annual Kids in the Kitchen Nutrition Fair, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at P.S. 270 (Johann DeKalb School in Bedford-Stuyvesant). The fair will be full of free activities for children and their families — the events are designed to get everyone moving and on the right track to a healthy life.

The group has also organized an annual Easter Egg Hunt for survivors of domestic violence, which will take place on March 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Women’s Survival Space. The afternoon will consist of food, games, mentoring and a reading of “The Velveteen Rabbit.”

One of the JLB’s signature annual events, the Belle and Beau of the Ball Day of Beauty formal wear drive and scholarship program, will take place on April 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at PS 161, 300 Crown St., Crown Heights. The event provides formal clothing and makeovers to Brooklyn high schoolers in need so they can attend proms, graduations and other events without suffering financial stress.

Last year, the fundraiser gave more than 150 dresses to teen girls and provided six scholarships to graduating seniors. For the 2015 event, the group has fundraised more than $11,000 for young women and men.  Donations are still being accepted.
