American Heart Association announces new Brooklyn Board of Directors

Former Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz is among the new executive board members for the American Heart Association’s Brooklyn Board of Directors.

The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association has appointed new executive board members for the organization’s Brooklyn Board of Directors.

The board includes Hal L. Chadow, MD, FACC; Sam Ibrahim; Richard Mandell; Marty Markowitz; Jonathan D. Marmur, MD, FACC; Terrence Sacchi, MD, FACC; Vinay Tak, MD, FRCS, (EDIN), FACS; Toni Williams; Paul Zagami, R.Ph., MBA.

The new board members are experienced in several industries. Aside from their involvement in The American Heart Association, Chadow, Marmur, Sacchi and Tak also hold executive-level positions in medical/health science centers and hospitals throughout Brooklyn.

Chadow is the director of the Division of Cardiology at The Brookdale University Hospital & Medical Center and a professor of Clinical Medicine at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn. Marmur is the director of Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional Cardiology at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn. Sacchi is chief of the Division of Cardiology at New York Methodist Hospital. Tak is chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

The new Board of Directors also includes professionals with experience in business. New members—Ibrahim, Markowitz, Williams and Zagami—currently hold executive positions in businesses located throughout New York City/New York. Ibrahim is general manager at the Brooklyn Marriot. Marty Markowitz, the former borough president of Brooklyn, is currently the vice president of Borough Promotion and Engagement at NYC & Company. Williams is the Host and Executive Producer for Brooklyn Savvy Productions and Zagami is the market vice president for Walgreens Co.

With a new Brooklyn Board of Directors specialized in medicine, business and community involvement, the American Heart Association is excited to continue raising awareness about the importance of living a heart-healthy lifestyle.
