Children’s author R.L. Stine — known as the Stephen King of children’s literature —will celebrate the release of his new  book, “Don’t Stay Up Late” (St. Martin’s Press), with a talk and book signing on Saturday, April 18, at BookCourt, 163 Court St., Cobble Hill, at 7 p.m.

With his new book, Stine is continuing his popular “Fear Street’ series of horror books for young adults. He revived the series last fall after nearly two decades with “Party Games.” Stine is also known for his similarly scary “Goosebumps” series.

In “Don’t Stay Up Late,” R.L. Stine returns to Shadyside—a town of nightmares, shadows and terror. In the book, Lisa Brooks is plagued by nightmares and hallucinations.

When Lisa finds out that a neighbor is looking for a babysitter for her little boy, Lisa jumps at the chance to keep busy and to take her troubling thoughts. But then the murders start—and her friends begin dying one by one.

“Nineties-era nostalgists are celebrating the news that `Fear Street,’ R.L. Stine’s sprawling classic horror series for teens  … will be making a comeback,” wrote New York Magazine.

Stine is one of the bestselling children’s authors in history, with more than 400 million books sold to date. In 1986, he wrote his first teen horror novel, “Blind Date.” He created the “Fear Street” series in 1989, which so far has sold 80 million copies.

The “Goosebumps” series has sold 300 million copies worldwide, in addition to becoming a television show and an upcoming film later this year.
