Mayor Bill de Blasio says one of New York City’s most dangerous schools has started to turn around thanks to his renewal program for struggling schools.

De Blasio said Wednesday that his administration is “laser-focused” on improving Automotive High School in Williamsburg and the rest of the 94 so-called renewal schools.

He visited the school and said suspensions are down 47 percent there compared with last year.

Also on Wednesday, Chancellor Carmen Farina told City Council members that city schools have made progress on de Blasio’s watch but there is more work ahead.

The mayor and chancellor spoke as the city awaited decisions from Albany on education-related issues. They include continued mayoral control of New York City schools and raising the cap on charter schools.
