The more than 2,000 members of China’s top legislative advisory body convened their annual meeting Tuesday, kicking off a political high season that will continue with the opening of the national congress later in the week.

CHILE — Villarrica Volcano Erupts: The Villarrica volcano erupts near Pucon early Tuesday. The volcano erupted Tuesday around 3 a.m. local time, according to the National Emergency Office, which issued a red alert and ordered evacuations.

MASSACHUSETTS — Ice Swept Away on Track: Williston Northampton School grounds manager Joe Zewinski clears a season’s worth of snow from the track at Galbraith Field in Easthampton on Monday. Zewinski says the process takes more than one day and involves several steps to remove the snow from the infield and deposit it outside the track oval.
