Nets star Brook Lopez wins Eastern Conference Player of the Week
The National Basketball Association announced Monday that Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, March 23 through Sunday, March 29. This is the first NBA Player of the Week honor of Lopez’s career and the second Player of the Week honor for the Nets this season (Deron Williams previously captured the award for games played from November 3-9). This also marks the 40th time in franchise history a Nets’ player has earned Player of the Week honors, and Lopez becomes the 23rd different Nets’ player to earn the honor.
Lopez led the Nets to a 3-1 week, averaging 28.8 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 2.3 bpg in 38.0 mpg. He shot 57.8 percent from the field across Brooklyn’s four games, while also shooting 82.6 percent from the free throw line. Lopez posted three games of 30 or more points and two double-doubles in the Nets’ four-game stretch, leading the team or tying for the team-lead in scoring in all four games. He also led the team in rebounds and blocks in three of the Nets’ four games, while his 28.8 ppg ranked first among players in the Eastern Conference in games played from March 23 through March 29.
