In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of a pivotal voting rights march in 1965 over the Edmund Pettus Bridge from Selma, Alabama to the state’s capital of Montgomery, Brooklyn BP Eric Adams has announced a march over the Brooklyn Bridge to take place this Saturday.

The march will start from the Manhattan side at roughly 11:30 a.m., with participants gathering roughly an hour prior.

It will wind up at Brooklyn Borough Hall, where the marchers will gather to watch President Barack Obama’s address to the nation from Selma.

The original march, led by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights luminaries, was part of the Selma Voting Rights Movement and led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965.

The march gained the nickname “Bloody Sunday” after Alabama state troopers and police attacked the marchers on the bridge.
