McAllister’s photograph, along with other Gold Key-winning artwork in the competition, will be displayed at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art in the Ruth & Harold D. Uris Center for Education starting on March 16 and continuing to May 17.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2015 in New York City are sponsored by The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and Parsons The New School for Design.

The 2015 awards ceremony will be held on March 21 at The New School.

“The piece of art is a photograph I made of me in a tree. In the picture, there are 9 of me, all wearing red, spread out on different branches in the tree or on the ground,” McAllister said about his award-winning photograph. “The piece is a self-portrait, which I created in Photoshop. It does not have a title.”

“My art classes at Poly have helped me enjoy art more and build on my skills as an artist,” he said.

“Rowan is truly unique — in fact I will go as far as to say, I have never had a student who is as creative and action-oriented as he is,” Poly’s Visual Arts Chair Jo-Ann Menchetti told the Eagle. “Rowan is a wonderful student and a complete joy to teach, and I know he is on the verge of many wonderful new experiences at RISD.”

Regional submissions that have been awarded a Gold Key have automatically been forwarded to the national level of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards where they will be assessed once again, alongside the Gold Key works submitted by young artists from across the country. The results of the national competition and American Visions will be announced on March 16.
