ON THIS DAY in 1916, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Brooklyn Congressmen Get Pro-German Appeals.”

The article focused on responses in light of possible changes in diplomatic foreign relations during World War I.

“The Brooklyn and Long Island Congressmen have not escaped the avalanche of the telegrams reaching Washington from pro-German sources, protesting against a possible breaking of diplomatic relations,” the Eagle reported.

BENITO MUSSOLINI WAS EXECUTED on this day in 1945. Italian partisans shot him near Dongo, ending the 23-year-long Fascist rule of Italy. Also executed were several other leaders of the Fascist party and Mussolini’s mistress.

A “DISABILITY IN HOLLYWOOD” presentation will take place from 9 to 10:10 a.m. today at Kingsborough Community College. The representation of people with disabilities in films — such as “Rain Man” and “The Intouchables” — will be featured at this event, which also looks at The Reel Abilities Film Festival with an eye toward a more equitable future for disabled actors in films.
