Xaverian High School was originally founded in 1957 as a Catholic educational institution for boys, but the Bay Ridge school actually has a diverse population that includes students who are Christian Orthodox.

For over 30 years, the Very Rev. Eugene N. Pappas, a renowned ecumenist, educator, missionary and social activist and pastor at Three Hierarchs Church in Brooklyn, has served as Xaverian’s Orthodox Theological Ministry instructor.

Pappas, who is also the president of the Greek Orthodox Clergy Association, leads Christian Orthodox students in prayer and study sessions twice a month.

The sessions offer students the opportunity to become closer to their faith, according to Xaverian officials.
