Prissana Alston named SVP and Chief Nursing Officer at Interfaith Medical Center

Prissana Alston, a nurse leader with more than three decades of experience, has been named senior vice president and chief nursing officer (CNO) at Interfaith Medical Center.

The announcement was made by Steven Korf, the hospital’s president and CEO, who said Dr. Alston would be responsible for Patient Care Services and Practice Policy, and tasked with building relationships and enhancing overall patient experience in regard to quality, safety and practice.

“Dr. Alston is a transformational leader with a proven ability to implement complex programs, manage multiple projects and build relationships with professional staff and the community,” said Korf. “Her experience in executing quality improvement initiatives will help Interfaith maintain the highest standards and provide the best possible care for our patients.”

Most recently, Alston served as administrator on duty for Harlem Hospital

through Specialty Agency in Queens, where she was responsible for directing the organization’s care delivery system to provide optimal patient and family experiences, and coordinate the continuum of care across Generations Plus and Northern Manhattan Health Network.

Before that, Alston was assistant vice president, Patient Care Services, at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center; director of Nursing at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Center; deputy director at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn; vice president of nursing at Silvercrest Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Briarwood and New York Hospital Queens in Flushing, where she also served as director of Patient Care Services.

She also served as assistant director of nursing at The New York Flushing Hospital and New York Hospital Queens; nurse manager oncology at Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan; and nurse manager medicine-surgery at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan.

Alston holds a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a master’s degree in nursing administration/education from Teachers College, Columbia University; a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Long Island University in Brooklyn; and an RN diploma from the Flushing Hospital School of Nursing in Flushing.

Alston is a board member of the New York State Education Department Office of the Professions, and has served on the advisory board of the Dolan Family Health Center of Huntington Hospital and chaired the New York State Senate 14th District’s Health Advisory Committee (2006-07). She is also a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing; a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives; and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
