Senior citizens will be able to get answers to questions on everything from housing issues to Metrocard discounts at a special fair taking place in Bay Ridge on Thursday.

State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-Bay Ridge-Southwest Brooklyn) is hosting a senior information fair on Thursday at St. Patrick’s Church Auditorium, 9511 Fourth Ave., starting at noon.

The fair is being held in honor of “Older Americans Month,” Golden said.

Numerous city, state and federal agencies have been invited to send representatives to the fair, including: Fire Department of New York, New York City Police Department, Social Security Administration, Human Resources Administration, New York State Public Service Commission,  New York State EPIC, Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the New York City departments of Buildings, Sanitation and Health.

In addition, numerous other organizations, AARP New York, Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, Catholic Charities, New York Foundation for Senior Citizens, Medicare Rights Center, NYU Lutheran Family Health Centers, New York Legal Assistance Group, Norwegian Christian Home and Health Center and the St. Nicholas Home are expected to send representatives to provide information to those attending the fair.

Golden, who hosts a senior citizen fair every year, said he does so as a way of honoring “those who have made our community what it is today and to assist them in improving their health, well-being and quality of life.”

The Bay Ridge-Dyker-Heights-Bensonhurst area has one of the highest concentrations of residents over the age of 65 in Brooklyn, according “Brooklyn Community Health: A report on the Elderly,” to 2008 a study conducted by the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center.

At the fair, Golden will offer an update on the recently completed New York State Budget and will provide information about upcoming community events.

The fair is free. For more information, call Golden’s office at 718-238-6044.
