The Carroll Gardens Association, Inc. (CGA) will host its 44th anniversary celebration on May 28 at Marco Polo Ristorante at 345 Court St. This year, CGA will be honoring exceptional public servants and businesses that have been at the forefront of community leadership and service in Carroll Gardens and nearby areas.

CGA will honor Rachel Demarest Gold, Esq., deputy commissioner and special counsel at the New York State Department of Labor, with the Public Service Award. Gold has overseen Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s statewide workforce development initiatives, including the governor’s Unemployment Strikeforce and Urban Youth Jobs Program. A lifelong resident of Brooklyn, she has served in a number of both private and public positions, from general counsel for a small family business to special assistant to the minority leader of the state Senate.

Sohne Brothers Real Estate Development will be honored with the Corporate Leadership Award. For more than 40 years, the Sohne family has developed and renovated a range of residential and mixed-use properties throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. Committed to energy efficiency and sustainability, Sohne Brothers is of the few developers in the U.S certified in the stringent international “passive house” standards.

Dog Day Cyclery will be honored with the Small Business Leadership Award. Opened by father and son Bill and Damien Nesbit in 2011, Dog Day has been a leader in promoting sustainable transportation options for local residents and advocating for expanded bicycle access. The store also has been a consistent supporter of community building initiatives.
