Late last month, the MTA voted to ban all political ads from city bus and subways. The policy was prompted by a Manhattan judge’s decision that had allowed a series of political ads to run on MTA billboards attacking the Islamic faith.

The Brooklyn Daily Eagle‘s legal editor, Charisma L. Troiano, sat down with two members of the MTA board, both of whom cast votes on the ban— one for and one against— in addition to a staff attorney with the New York Civil Liberties Union. On a recent episode of BK Live, Troiano and guests broke down the First Amendment rights at issue and explore the legal challenges faced by both sides of the debate.
