ON THIS DAY in 1914, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Elevator Falls Two Stories.”
The article focused on an elevator that dropped two stories with thirteen people aboard. “With thirteen persons aboard, including the operator, an elevator dropped two stories this afternoon in the new Terminal Building, at Court and Joralemon streets, but was stopped just above the fifth floor by the application of the emergency break,” the Eagle reported. “Although the passengers were badly jarred and all had to jump out of the car after it had been stopped, through a rather narrow opening, none was injured.”
