The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC) and interim President and CEO Jonathan Weld announced this week that Dr. Joseph Fetto has been named the hospital’s chief of orthopaedics. Prior to joining TBHC, Dr. Fetto was a clinical associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at NYU Langone Hospital.

“We are very proud to have Dr. Fetto join The Brooklyn Hospital Center,” said President and CEO Jonathan Weld. “Dr. Fetto is a pioneer in the field of orthopaedics, whose patients travel across the world to see him. His addition to our hospital adds to an award-winning team of physicians who have devoted their careers to keeping Brooklyn healthy.”

As an internationally recognized hip replacement specialist, Dr. Fetto developed the Lateral-Flare Internal Collar, a unique design for total hip femoral components that transformed the field by significantly improving the endurance of replaced hips.

Dr. Fetto earned his medical degree from New York Medical College and completed his residency at Metropolitan Hospital. He received his fellowship in sports medicine at the Hospital for Special Surgery and also completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He is board certified in orthopaedic surgery.

Founded as the borough’s first voluntary hospital, TBHC has been keeping Brooklyn healthy since 1845. Today, it is a 464-bed community teaching hospital, and provides a full range of primary, specialty, diagnostic and tertiary care with a team of outstanding physicians, nurses and staff. TBHC services almost 300,000 annual patient visits throughout Brooklyn.

Located in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn, TBHC is a clinical affiliate of The Mount Sinai Hospital and an academic affiliate of The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. TBHC has fully accredited, independent residency programs in emergency medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, pharmacy, family medicine, general dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery. TBHC trains more than 250 physicians each year.
