There will be no trip to Yankee Stadium for any of Brooklyn’s public school baseball teams, as Madison High School was eliminated in the semifinals by Tottenville when it dropped a three-game series 1-2 over the weekend.

Madison went into the series with the realistic expectations of a young team facing an opponent that hadn’t lost a league game all season, so it wasn’t a surprise when they dropped Game 1 of the series 4-1 last Thursday.

However, Madison was able to even up the series at 1-1 with a 5-1 win on Friday that left the Knights just one win away from a trip to the Public School Athletic League finals at Yankee Stadium.

Madison took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Game 2 when it scored on an error and then chased Tottenville’s starter Reyan Mustafoski in the second inning after Chris Scolavino tripled in Jordan Wilson. Wilson later made a game-saving catch in the sixth inning when Tottenville’s Sean Bennett hit a shot to center with the bases loaded and nobody out. Wilson made a great diving catch and then threw the runner out at third after he tagged up too soon.

That big win turned out not to matter, though, as Tottenville’s Mustafoski came back and pitched in Game 3 and managed to stifle Madison in a 3-2 extra-innings victory for the Staten Island powerhouse.

GRAND STREET EXITS IN 2ND ROUND

Grand Street looked like it could have upset potential this year as it got a couple of its big bats back from injuries late in the year. However, the Wolves couldn’t beat Cardozo after beating Walton High School in the first round.

It was a close game as Grand Street nearly pulled off a late-inning comeback, but they ultimately lost 6-5 in Queens on May 22.

EARLY UPSET FOR TELECOM

Telecom High School went into the playoffs as the No. 6 team in the PSAL AAA, but despite the high seed, the Yellow Jackets were upset 14-9 by Manhattan Center, the 27th seed, in the first round.

Telecom had a powerful lineup this year, but it just didn’t have the pitching, and Manhattan Center took advantage when it grabbed a 9-2 lead after four innings. Those big bats tried in vain to come back as they posted a six-spot in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the deficit was just too much.

LINCOLN WITH AN UNEXPECTED EXIT

The Lincoln Railsplitters looked like a AAA team all season and went into the PSAL AA playoffs with the top seed. However, after beating Lane High School in the first round and Banneker in the quarterfinals, they were hit hard by East Side Community in a 10-3 loss on Saturday.

This was a team that looked like it would cruise into the finals at Yankee Stadium, but instead it was upset by the No. 12 seed.
