Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 177th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1911 the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “L.I. Special Train Makes Record Trip to Montauk.”

The article focused on a train trip that was believed to impact a proposed ocean steamship terminal at Fort Pond Bay in Montauk.

“It was about 7:30 a.m. when the train left the Thirty-fourth street station…and at 9:55 o’clock it had arrived at its destination, covering the run of 119 miles in 1 hour 55 minutes,” the Eagle reported.
