Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn held its Upper School graduation ceremony on June 7, sending the Class of 2015 off to college. The Class of 2015 is the 145th graduating class in the history of the private school, located at 8515 Ridge Blvd. in Bay Ridge.

Here’s a sampling of what’s in store for the new graduates.

Class Valedictorian David Goldshteyn will be pursuing a degree in business analysis at Pace University. He was awarded a Presidential Scholarship for Academic Excellence.

Goldshteyn also participated in an advanced course in political science at Adelphi to gain college credits through the academy’s partnership with Adelphi University. He was joined in that course by fellow senior Jeremy Dan, who will be pursuing business and theater at Rutgers University.

Dan was involved in a number of activities during his time at Adelphi, including the varsity basketball team and the Model United Nations. He also had a starring role in the production of “Little Shop of Horrors,” portraying shop owner Mr. Mushnik.

George Chedrawi said he already knows where his post-Adelphi journey will take him, as he will be pursuing a degree in accounting.

“I’m following in my father’s footsteps,” he said.

“I’ve known George since he was a little boy. He comes from a wonderful family, and we are all excited to see what the future holds for him,” said Albert C. Corhan, Adelphi’s director of academy operations.

Varsity basketball player Jordan Sanders was accepted to all of the colleges to which he applied and will attend Arcadia University in Pennsylvania. He said he hopes to continue his basketball career, while at the same time pursuing a degree in accounting. Sanders was named the MVP of the Academy’s varsity basketball team twice and helped the team win the Metro League Championship earlier this year.

Jason Rivera and John Culmine were also part of Adelphi’s championship basketball team and will both attend college in the fall. Rivera will pursue a career in physical therapy, while Culmine is interested in a career in criminal justice.

Two graduates plan to pursue degrees in nursing. Erika Goldschmidt comes from a family of nurses, including her mother and sister.  She will start an accelerated nursing program this month.

Anna Dobelis will study nursing at Wagner College, to which she was awarded a Dean’s Scholarship.

Arthur Osipyan was awarded a scholarship to New York Institute of Technology, where he will pursue a degree in computer science.

“I’ve always enjoyed technology,” he said. “Plus, the tech field is growing at such a rapid pace.”

Richard Lyons will attend Long Island University seeking a degree in business management.

Nicole Mishiyev will attend the University of Albany on an academic scholarship, where she hopes to pursue a career as a pharmacist. Mishiyev said she enjoyed her time at Adelphi, particularly as a member of the volleyball team and the Film Society. “I’ve had a lot of good times here,” she said.

Brenda Chapnick will study photography at the Pratt Institute. An artist and photographer, Chapnick’s artwork was put on display for several months last year at the Brooklyn Museum. She also helped design the lighting for the Academy’s performance of “Little Shop of Horrors” and created several murals on display throughout the school building.

Guidance Counselor Patrizia Vicino has been working with the students since they began at Adelphi to help them prepare for college. She also worked with them on establishing career goals and exploring different job opportunities. “As their college counselor and academic coordinator, I’ve spent so much time with the seniors, closely guiding them through the college application process to help them reach their goals. It’s so rewarding to see them all receive acceptance to the institutions of their choice, with many gaining admittance to accelerated programs,” she said.

Iphigenia Romanos, Adelphi’s head of school, said the graduates are an exciting group of young people with eclectic talents.

“The Class of 2015 is such a remarkable mix of students with so many diverse talents and interests,” Romanos said. “From athletics, to business, to the sciences and the arts, these students are skilled in a number of areas and will undoubtedly refine their skills in college in order to enjoy meaningful and rewarding careers.”
