“The tombstone makers of the cemetery regions of East New York and Queens Borough have gone on a strike,” the Eagle reported. “No epitaphs are being chiseled, and the uncut granite remains silent as to the deeds and dates of the dead.”

LES PAUL was born on this day in 1915. Les Paul was a legendary American musician who designed one of the first solid-body electric guitars. He also made groundbreaking contributions in guitar effects. He died in 2009.

New York City’s most populous borough, Brooklyn, is home to nearly 2.6 million residents. If Brooklyn were an independent city it would be the fourth largest city in the United States. While Brooklyn has become the epitome of ‘cool and hip’ in recent years, for those that were born here, raised families here and improved communities over the years, Brooklyn has never been ‘uncool’.
