Once upon a time, before the Revolutionary War, there was a farm here in the neighborhood now known as Marine Park.

The farmhouse from the 1720s lives on. A section of it was incorporated into a house built by Hendrick I. Lott in 1800.

The historic property at 1940 E. 36th St. — which is a city landmark — is one of the neighborhood treasures that makes a visit to Marine Park worthwhile. See related story to read more about it.

By 1825, the Lotts’ farm was 200 acres in size.

Today, the land on which the Hendrick I. Lott House stands is three-quarters of an acre in size. The property looked so fine the other day when we stopped by to check up on it.
