NYU Lutheran opens infusion center for cancer patients
With help from an $18,000 donation from Northfield Bank Foundation, NYU Lutheran Medical Center has opened a new infusion center in Bay Ridge to treat patients with cancer, anemia, rheumatoid arthritis and neurological disorders.
NYU Lutheran officials and representatives of Northfield Bank Foundation recently took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the center at 8721 Fifth Ave. NYU Lutheran Medical Center is located at 150 55th St. in Sunset Park.
Patients undergoing infusion therapy are given medication through a needle or catheter. Infusion therapy is prescribed for patients who cannot take medications orally.
The new NYU Lutheran Infusion Center took three years to develop, according to NYU Lutheran officials. The facility features private rooms for patients, a state-of-the-art pharmacy and extended hours of operation. The center is expected to begin accepting patients by the end of this month.
