Unbound: A Book Launch Series with BAM and Greenlight Bookstore” will return to Brooklyn this fall with a series of unique talks surrounding highly anticipated book launches by five contemporary artists and authors — Elizabeth Gilbert, Bryan Doerries, Sara Bareilles, Gloria Steinem and Elvis Costello.

Discussing her new book “Big Magic,” author Elizabeth Gilbert (known for “Eat, Pray, Love”) will delve into her artistic process, sharing her wisdom and understanding of creativity in an effort to expand the notion that creativity is open to all people. Drawing on stories from her own life, as well as those of friends and people who have inspired her, Gilbert challenges readers to forge their own creative journeys. Gilbert will discuss the discovery of her creative voice with playwright and performer Sarah Jones on Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Theater director and translator Bryan Doerries will return to BAM on Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. to celebrate the launch of his book, “The Theater of War: What Ancient Greek Tragedies Can Teach Us Today.” This event will feature readings of portions of Doerries’ book by actors Adam Driver, Paul Giamatti, David Strathairn and others. Doerries will also lead a discussion to explore how ancient tragedies can help begin to heal communities that have been visited by trauma.

Grammy Award-nominated singer and songwriter Sara Bareilles will talk to renowned musician Ben Folds about her book, “Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) in Song,” on Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m.  In this collection of essays, Bareilles pulls back the curtain on her journey as a songwriter, sharing her process as well as revealing the joy and struggle that come with creating great works while staying true to herself. The evening will also include a performance and book signing by Bareilles.

Feminist author and activist Gloria Steinem will come to BAM on Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. as part of a national book tour to launch her new book, “My Life on the Road.” Steinem writes a candid account of how her early years led her to live an on-the-road kind of life: traveling, listening to people, learning and creating change. She reveals the story of her own growth in tandem with the growth of an ongoing movement for equality.

In “Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink,” music luminary Elvis Costello offers his unique perspective on his rise to international success, sharing stories and observations about his experiences and collaborations with other artists, while also offering insight into the previously undocumented emotional foundations of some of his best-known songs. Costello will speak about his book on Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for Bareilles, Steinem, and Costello will go on sale July 29 (July 22 for members). Tickets for Gilbert and Doerries are already on sale. The tickets range in price from $25 to $45. For Gilbert, Doerries, and Costello, books included in the ticket bundle will be pre-signed. Bareilles and Steinem will be signing copies of their books after the program.
