Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 204th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1911, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Miss Liberty in Danger, Is Report of Engineer.”

The article focused on the corrosion of the Statue of Liberty due to salty air and damaging liquids found on her surface.

“How the giantess shall be saved is a matter which is puzzling even the experts,” the Eagle reported. “The investigation has shown that the metal composing the statue is full of holes.”
