NEW YORK CITY — Statue of Liberty Illuminated in New Lights: New light-emitting diodes, or LEDs, illuminate the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island after the new system was turned on Tuesday. The same system is also in place at the Washington Monument, the White House and the Flight 93 National Memorial.
PHILIPPINES — Boys Play Basketball in Waist-High Water: Filipino boys play basketball in floodwaters from a swollen creek at a coastal village in Malabon, north of Manila, on Wednesday. Typhoon Chan-Hom, now heading to northern Taiwan, has enhanced the seasonal monsoon, dumping heavy rains over the country’s capital and the northern provinces.
