In this courtroom sketch, Hon. Genine Edwards listens as defendant’s attorney Laura R. Efrati (standing), of the law firm Harris, King, Fodera & Correia, conducts a direct examination in the damages-only motor-vehicle accident trial Diana Chandler v. Bell Fire Extinguisher Co. and Jason Marin. Court reporter Gail Eng (seated, center) transcribed the proceedings.

The issue of liability was decided in summary judgment. The plaintiff, who was 50 years old at the time of the accident, is seeking compensation for her claims of serious and lasting injury resulting from the rear-ender that happened in October 2012 at the intersection of President Street and 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn. She alleges that she has suffered neck and back disc herniations as a result of the accident. Chandler is represented by Brian J. Zwaig (seated, right) of the law firm Rubenstein & Rynecki.

The defendant’s expert witness radiologist offered testimony that disputed any findings of traumatic injury. Co-defendant Marin testified to a low-speed impact with little visible vehicular damage.

After deliberating for 1 ½ hours, the jury returned a verdict in favor of the defendant, in the trial that concluded this week in Kings County Civil Supreme.
