Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 231st day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1925, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Sixteen Men Escape Death as Steel Pier Collapses.”

The article focused on an accident at a construction site at Pier 2 in Manhattan, causing serious injury to workers.

“The steel fell with a crash, which could be heard several blocks away,” the Eagle reported. “The police reserves, ambulances and fire trucks were called by nearby business offices.”
