NY Officials: 194 NYC landlords violating rent rules
Authorities say 194 New York City landlords have violated state law by accepting lucrative tax breaks but then failing to extend rental protections to tenants.
State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City housing officials said Wednesday that they’ve sent compliance notices to the landlords, whose buildings house more than 2,400 families.
The landlords received what are known as 421-A tax breaks, which made their buildings subject to regulations covering rental increases. But Schneiderman and the other officials say they failed to comply with that part of the law.
