Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 239th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1935, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “10,000 Swarm in Ten Blocks on WPA Call.”

The article focused on the city switching those on home relief to Work Progress Administration (WPA) jobs.

“Placing men in jobs at the rate of seven to a minute, New York City relief heads speeded up as they swung into the second day of the process,” the Eagle reported. “…It was said to be the greatest concentration of the unemployed in the city’s history.”
