Greetings, Brooklyn. Today is the 260th day of the year.

ON THIS DAY IN 1938, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “’Bubble Bouncer’ Bumps into Wall and Injures Four.”

The article focused on an amusement ride in Coney Island that crashed and injured four people and caused destruction at the park.

“The cars are operated by a shaft connected to a central mechanism, which causes the cars to jerk about a track,” the Eagle reported. “When the shaft broke the momentum of the car caused it to crash into the wall, jarring the passengers.”

HANK WILLIAMS SR. was born on this day in 1923. The country and western singer achieved his first hit with “Lovesick Blues,” which brought him a contract with the Grand Ole Opry. He died in January of 1953 in Virginia.
