Margaret Atwood, the acclaimed author of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Oryx and Crake” and numerous other works, will come to St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights to share her new novel, “The Heart Goes Last” (Bloomsbury), on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in the college’s Founders Hall (180 Remsen St.).

Atwood will appear in conversation with Buzzfeed Books’ editor Isaac Fitzgerald, the co-founder of Pen & Ink, and answer questions from the audience.

Tickets are free on a first-come, first-served basis. The line will form at 5 p.m., doors will open at 6 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m.

Atwood is the author of more than 40 volumes of poetry, children’s literature, fiction and nonfiction, but is best known for her novels, which include “The Edible Woman” (1969), “The Robber Bride” (1994), “Alias Grace” (1996) and “The Blind Assassin,” which won the prestigious Booker Prize in 2000. Her most recent volume of poetry, “The Door,” was published in 2007.

“In Other Worlds: SF and the Human Imagination,” a collection of nonfiction essays, was released in 2011. Her non-fiction book “Payback: Debt and the Shadow Side of Wealth” was adapted for the screen in 2012.

Atwood’s work has been published in more than 40 languages, including Farsi, Japanese, Turkish, Finnish, Korean, Icelandic and Estonian.
